Final Countdown 3...

Well it's June fellow teachers! The final countdown begins! I feel time has flown by so fast. The next three weeks we will start to close on our inSpiration Sundays and prepare for summer. As we do that, let's spend some time each week unpacking things we can do that will help us "pack up" and transition to summer. Perhaps we can even "stuff these" in our backpacks to take home...

As teachers, we know that there is a lot packed into the last month of school. We have to spend time closing out report cards, wrapping up meetings, setting our students up with books for the summer, still there are  graduations, celebrations, field days and class trips planned, these final few weeks compare with the fast pace of September. It's easy to get lost in the commotion and feel overwhelmed, especially knowing that a break is very close.

This time of the year is also a time for reflection on the year we experienced. In our fast paced days, let's remember to sit quietly for even just five minutes to think back on both successes and challenges we found in our work-those fail-forward moment from this year that we can make work next year. Having time and thinking space is not only healthy, but inspiring. Being present in that moment to feel any and all emotions we need to is what will help us improve next year.

Reflecting on the moments that made us laugh is also key. We all have that secret compartment in our brain with "funniest things our students say..." and now is the time to show others that random smile or laugh because we are thinking about those moments. I also like to make a mental list of all the things I know I did well, despite the obstacles or challenges in my way. I may have not been successful at everything I set out to do, but the attempt and ambition were there and I know that counts just as much!

Unpack the time to reflect despite the filled calendar; all of the lessons learned, inspiring ideas, and unforgettable moments are worth this small moment in time, and is something we can pack with us as we leave for summer.

Final Thoughts- Keep spending time thinking and reflecting on both your successful and fail-forward moments. Keep those unforgettable moments in your memory and pack them up to take with you. Keep your confidence in yourself that you did your very best this year, and just like we tell our students, there is always room for improvement. Keep packing your suitcase with whatever it is you need for the summer to recover and get ready for next year!
