Teacher Leadership: A New Opportunity

 It's with great pleasure I can finally share with everyone some exciting news... It is an honor to announce that I will be serving as the 2022-2023 Middlesex County Teacher of the Year. This past year has been a whirlwind as I navigated through the application process. At the start of the process, I wasn't sure what to expect. Now I have a clear picture, and although the process required a lot of moving parts (essays, resumes, videos, etc.,)  it was well worth the effort.  I decided to share this news not just to explain the process or make the announcement, but to share my message. As I've shared, the three loves of my teaching life are special education, literacy, and teacher leadership. Literacy is the cornerstone of equity, and working with pre-service and early educators to learn best practices has been a highlight of my career. I feel that all three are truly intertwined, and teaching is not just a job, but a life's calling to a noble profession in sharing a love

Through the Telescope

I am one to be fully honest. Monday and Tuesday of this week felt like an unstoppable roller coaster. I could also safely make the parallel to a tornado, as both days seamlessly blended together. This of course leads to my explanation/excuse (insert whichever you prefer here!) as to why we wind up here together today (Wednesday) starting the week.  The good news is that this week so far has contributed a lot of learning experiences to my resume, work completion, and networking with others. I'm always amazed at the individual talents and contributions fellow educator colleagues possess. One of the best things about this profession is the endless potential of learning opportunities that arise. Extra, Extra, Read All About Reading!

It's no secret that one of my most beloved activities is learning. My friends might call it "her wheels are spinning again" or "your brain never turns" off moments... or worse,  "never stopping syndrome." I laugh in spite of myself because, well, it's true. Why am I like this, truthfully I have no idea. I have no siblings that I emulated and created this "monster within" nor do I deny noticing my family has no trouble "turning off" or "tuning out." So, what's the deal with me? Perhaps that should be a who other personal blog for my General section.  Given we are living in a time of unfavorable interactions and mixed communication has created a no-winning situation, one way I feel I escape is through learning and goal setting.
